Evaluating Sexual Disparities in the Management of Acute Coronary Syndrome in the Southern region of Puerto Rico

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in women in the US and Puerto Rico (PR). Acute coronary syndrome (ACS), including unstable angina (UA), ST=elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), represents a major contributor.
National and international data consistently show sex-based disparities: women with ACS frequently experience diagnostic delay, underrepresentation in clinical trials, and higher prevalence of non-traditional risk factors (e.g. Psychiatric disorders, autoimmune disease).
However, data specific to the Puerto Rican population remains limited, highlighting the need to determine if similar disparities exist locally.
